The modern woman is unlike any that came before her – we aren’t bra-burning feminists, we aren’t parasol-toting Parisians and we don’t define ourselves by Rosie the Riveter or Laura Ingalls. Instead, being a woman today means something slightly different to each of us.
Ninety-six percent of millennial women worldwide list “being independent” as their most important life goal, according to a recent study conducted by Levi’s (the jeans brand). The study also found that eighty-seven percent defined success as “being able to shape their future.”
The Back Story
Since early on in my publishing career, I’ve been searching for a magazine or a website that was written for me. I wanted something that was smart and scrappy with a dash of irreverence.
The closest I’ve found? Esquire Magazine. It’s smart, funny, irreverent and intelligent. It assumes its reader is suave and just needs that one last tip. The problem? It’s for men.
And so the idea for Moxy Magazine was born. Moxy means having backbone, nerve, pep. It means seizing life for what it’s worth. Moxy readers are their own people; but they have in common one goal: to be themselves and to achieve success. And they are on their way to doing exactly that.
So, what can you expect from Moxy?
The “How To” column is for those women who want to be independent, whether that means changing their own oil or making a deal with the cable company to get a lower rate.
What I Wish I Knew When…is a chance for women to learn from each other, because according to the Levi’s study, women are re-imagining the traditional mentorship, “transforming it into exchange that’s two-way rather than one-way, shared among many women rather than one-on-one.”
The profiles we run show woman who have had big ideas and made them happen. Our Reference Desk is where our readers can ask questions, and get real answers about life, the universe and everything. Our Media reviews are videos, articles, books and information that women need to know. Foreign Correspondence takes a global perspective and examines the issues that affect us all.
So after a lot of work, donated by a lot of different people, I’m thrilled to present you with the first issue of Moxy Magazine.
